The Rule for NEFT/RTGS Change

The Rule for NEFT/RTGS Change

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) modified NEFT and RTGS for transactions under the Foreign Contribution Act. The Ministry of Home Affairs urged SBI to submit a daily report about foreign donors, including money received from overseas; therefore, the RBI responded in response. Foreign donations must only go to the FCRA account of SBI’s main branch in New Delhi under the Foreign Contribution Act (FCRA).

About NEFT:

• NEFT (National Electronic Funds Transfer) is a method for making electronic financial transfers online.
• The NEFT capability is available on the internet and mobile banking in most Indian banks.
• It permits the transfer of funds from any bank account to any branch of any other bank as long as the transactions are carried out between banks that participate in the NEFT payment system.
• Real-time transactions initiated using NEFT do not occur.
• The payments made via NEFT are processed and completed in batches every half hour under Central Bank of India (RBI) regulations.
• NEFT transactions are possible around-the-clock.
• The minimum transfer value is one rupee.
• There is no maximum transfer value.
• There are no additional transaction fees for money transfers done through NEFT.

About RTGS:

• Real-time Gross Settlement, or RTGS, is a payment method where funds are instantly and instantly sent from one bank account to another.
• It is frequently used in significant value transactions.
• The quickest way to transfer money while using the banking method is RTGS.
• One-to-one processing is used to complete transactions completed using RTGS.
• You can make transactions using RTGS anytime.
• Minimum Transfer Value: 2 lakh rupees.
• The maximum transfer value is: There is no upper limit; however, it may differ between banks.

When Will The Rules Come Into Effect?

• SBI is required to update the Home Ministry daily.
• “Necessary adjustments have been made in the NEFT and RTGS systems,” the central bank informed.
• The rules will be in force from March 15, 2023.
• RBI has instructed banks to make the required adjustments to obtain the appropriate information while transferring international donations to SBI via the NEFT and RTGS systems.

The FCRA regulations have become more stringent since the Modi government took office in 2014. Following this, the FCRA registrations of roughly 2,000 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have also been revoked due to their violations of numerous legal restrictions.
